Religious are men and women who have taken either temporary or perpetual vows to live a particular rule of life.

Religious are called to exercise the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Religious belong to a communal group known as an order. Each order will have its own rule of life and its own charism.

Religious are called to imitate some aspect of Christ in their rule of life, and by so doing attract others to follow Christ. This may be teaching, or caring for the sick, or missionary work and so on.

Prayer for vocations to the Religious Life:

"Lord Jesus Christ, who saidst: Whoso loseth his life for my sake shall find it: grant, we beseech thee, that men and women may hear thy calling to the religious life, and so may become beacons of your love to the world; who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen."
